Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

Hit and run

Earlier today I was at my friends house and he asked if he could borrow my car to go to the store real quick and I said OK.On the way to the store he ran a red light on a left turn and a van ran into the side of my car. He got out of the car and ran from the scene. The people from the van went to the hospital, but they turned out OK and they only complained about minor back and neck pain. It was not a hard collision. I do not have collision coverage on my vehicle. The car is only in my name and I live with my parents because im still in college. Can they take anything else from me that isn't in my name? I am mostly concerned about my parent's well being and if there is anyway they can be affected by this mess. How can I get the people to only look at me and what I own if they want to sue? When the police came to my house for a statement, they mentioned that my mothers name was on the car's insurance or the registration next to mine. The Department of motor vehicles must have a clerical error because before I could even buy the car I had to have my own insurance and mine was the only name on the car. My name is the only name on the registaration and my insurance card. Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. THANKYOU.

Re: Hit and run

No, if civil responsibility were to be found on your part, only your assets, and not those of your parents, would be subject to judgment and possible levy and/or attachment.
