Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

Pulled over on a suspended license

My license was suspended for 60 days after I recieved a ticket that put me over 12 points in the state of VA. But my father passed away the month of my suspension so I didnt get a chance to go into the DMV to surrender my license. So I kept my license until the date I thought I could drive again which was April 14, 07, so I drove on April 15th thinking I could and an officer pulled me over on that day just because he ran my tags and then gave me a ticket for driving on the a suspended license but then I went to the DMV and they informed that my license was suspended until April 17, 2007. So my question is how do I go about defending my case and would I need to get a lawyer? I've had a rough couple of months and I just didnt have time to deal with this in relations to all other matters.

Re: Pulled over on a suspended license

DWS(Driving While Suspended) is a jailable offense in the Commonwealth.

Better get an attorney to represent you in this matter. If you cannot afford to hire such on your own, ask the court to appoint one for you.
