Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Washington

My dad died with a $12K debt to a credit card (Chase). Chase says my Mom, who was an \"authorized user\" on the account but NOT a co-applicant, is NOT responsible for the debt. However, they say a collection agency will be contacting her asking for repayment from the \"estate.\" How do we know if we she has to pay it or not?

Ask the collection agency (in writing) for the documentation that shows that your mom is responsible for the debt. Take the documentation to an attorney to review. Alternatively, get Chase to put it in writing that your mother is not responsible for the debt.
