Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

in applying for a job, what needs to be revealed?

I am applying for a teaching position and my problem is that in my first year of college, my dorm room was searched and bottle with dryer sheets was found. This is considered to be drug para,. I plead not guilty and the judge gave me ''an order of continuance.'' As long as i complied believed i would not be charged.

My question is: On my application to be a teacher, do i say that i have been convicted of a crime, and have i been arrested since i was only issued a ticket? Please help me i do not know what to do and i despretly want the job.

Re: in applying for a job, what needs to be revealed?

You have not been convicted of a crime; thus, you should answer "no" to the first question.

With respect to the question about arrest, the short answer is also "no". Many law enforcement officers will conclude their written report with "closed by arrest", when in fact, they only issued a criminal citation. Whether you were in fact placed under arrest before the issuance of the citation depends on what the officer told you or did. You should be safe in responding no unless he specifically told you that you were under arrest.
