assault charges

i am being charged with assault in the 4th degree. the other person started the confrontaion. what should i do?

Consult with your attorney. You will want to get any witness statements to supplement a self-defense argument.

The legal system is unforgiving for any mistakes. You'll want an attorney's help from the beginning. If the person started the physical confrontation, than you have the affirmative defenses of self-defense and mutual combat. Self-defense is excellent because, once you raise it, the prosecutor must disprove it beyond a reasonable doubt. Also, if the jury finds you not guilty by virtue of self-defense than the prosecutor has to pay you back for your defense attorney.
