Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

Property Squabble

I have a neighbor that I befriended and they had to move back to Texas last December (of 2002) and left me to clean up items they didn't have time to get rid of and in the process gave me a boat kicker motor (1990's series) and told me to keep it, sell it and get the money for it for all the help that myself and my husband did for them. I have let the motor sit as I had no idea what to sell it for and then I did in August for $100 and now they want the motor back saying that I was just ''holding'' it for them because they need money.

She is threatening to call the police and hire an attorney. I have 2 witnesses that heard her give it to me, my husband and my foster son. So my questions are: 1) Can I be in legal trouble and be charged with theft like she says? 2) Can she sue me? 3) Can I charge her for storage fees if this does go to court and I counterclaim and how much can I charge per month?

Re: Property Squabble

You can always be in legal trouble Alot of it will be dependent on the good sense of the prosecutor. Yes, she can always sue you also . I would suggest that you write down in as much detail your recollection of the events , and your witnesses do the same . then unfortnately you have to wait until the action starts if it starts at all
