Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Washington

Male discrimination

Just recently, I was escorted off the worksite for having expressed a bit of simple frustration. I'm a man, and even so this is the only time it has ever happened. A woman co-worker called security on me to have me escorted off the site and for me to talk to a manager the following week. I think I've just been discriminated against, because all of my other co-workers are women.

Re: Male discrimination

Discrimination would be shown if you were treated differently for identical or similar behavior. For example, if you said "gosh darn it!" and were escorted off, but women who had said that weren't, yes, it's different treatment.

But if you used a bunch of swear words, or otherwise expressed your frustration in a way different from the women, then it may not be different treatment.

In addition, one would need to look at your rank and seniority, and compare that with the rank and seniority of the women who behaved similarly but were treated differently. EG, if you have been on the job two weeks, and engage in the same behavior as a woman who's been on the job 20 years, a different response from management probably would not be illegal.

Hope that helps. Good luck!
