Re: Lawyer needed?

Definitely dont miss your court date. If you dont appear, your right to a speedy trial within 90-days will be affected and the judge may issue a bench warrant for your arrest. Plus, it can be difficult, time consuming, and expensive to quash the bench warrant. Some courts charge hundreds of dollars in fees when you quash a warrant and they make you wait sometimes hours to get this done. Also, once the bench warrant is issued you can also be arrested and held in jail until your case is resolved.

I do recommend that you locate a lawyer, because in a DUI case like yours, this is highly essential. But if you cannot retain one by the date of your court hearing, appear in court and tell the judge you want a continuance for the purposes of securing private counsel. Usually the judge will give you a week or more in order to do this.

The bottom line is, however, dont miss court!
