Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Child support for child with baby

I pay support to my ex for my 17 year old daughter. My daughter just had a baby with her boyfriend and they both live with my ex husband. Do I still have to pay support? Can they make me provide medical for her baby?

Re: Child support for child with baby

You still are obligated to pay support for your daughter. The father (and mother-your daughter) are responsible for assuring support of their child, not you and your former spouse.

Re: Child support for child with baby

You are obligated to pay support for your 17 year old under the terms of the child support order for her until that order expires, usually when she turns 18 or graduates high school whichever comes last.

Your 17 year old can apply for state medical for her baby, that isn't your problem.

But the fact that a 17 year old child is also a mother does not negate your support obligation.
