Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Legal seperation from mother

I am 18 yrs old and no longer living with my mother. She lives here, in Washington, and my father lives in Alabama. Due to hostility between us, I do not want her to be in any way connected to me, or me to her. I would like my father to be my only legal parent. I want this done for legal reasons, esp. when i apply for financial aide for college, and also my own peace of mind. Is there any process that i must go through to make this happen, is it possible at all?

Re: Legal seperation from mother

I don't know all the fact of your situation, however in Washington the age of majority is 18. Therefore, you don't need to go through any process as you're no longer considered a minor. As for whether you need to include her in your financial aid application, you'll need to check the rules on that, but I would suspect that since you are now 18 there will be no need to list your mother on any application, unless you want to have them take her income in account. Good luck with school.
