Can a husband be held responsible for medical bills accrued by the wife

Yes he can. WA is a community property state. Half of everything you earn is hers, as an undivided interest. If she has bills, the creditor can come after you for them, barring some unusual circumstances. This is because the services are held to benefit the marital community. Hope this helps.
