Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Washington

My girlfriend that I live with has been named in a lawsuit for allegedly infringing West Coast Productions, Inc.'s copyrights on the Internet by uploading and/or downloading a movie. I downloaded the movie from a torrent website. At the very least I would like the heat taken off her. Is there anything we can do?

As a Franchise Attorney I can only say this. At a practical level, there's not much you can do, other than indemnify her for any damages they prove. The usual scenario in these cases is to send a demand letter for infringement damages, not file a lawsuit. If, as you say, she's involved in a lawsuit, she has to file a responsive pleading within the time limit allowed by law. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
