Legal Question in Tax Law in Washington

Can a non-US based family member send me money to help pay for my tuition? What tax implications would that trigger? How much can they legally send without penalty or red flags?

So long as there's nothing illegal going on it's not against the law to transfer money around the world. Keep good documentation.
