Legal Question in Banking Law in West Virginia

a check cashed and later determined counterfiet

I recieved a check in the mail, I took it to my bank and they cashed it. About 2 days later I found out the check was counterfiet, I filed a police report, and now I am paying back 4800 for a check that I had no idea wasn't any good. I don't believe that it was even investigated. The bank teller did not even know the difference. So how was I suppose to know. I can't afford all of this, I have twol little boys to take care of and I', not working because I may need surgery, and can't afford that either. Isn't there something that can be done to the people that sent the check? What am I suppose to do?

Re: a check cashed and later determined counterfiet

What did you do with the money that came from the cashed check?

Did you think it was free?

Did you have any idea who the Payor on the check was?
