Legal Question in Insurance Law in West Virginia

Driving without insurance

Does driving without insurance make you automatically liable for an accident? There was an accident and at the scene the police officer did not issue me a ticket and told me i was not responsible for the accident. I had to get my car towed and had to get insurance on the vehicle before i drove it again. Six months later I am getting letters from Progressive Insurance telling me that because I did not have insurance I am resonsible for that accident. they have nothing to go off of except that i did not have insurance. Is there any validity to this claim. They have sent this to the credit buruea and they are fighting me for 2,500 dollars? Please help

Re: Driving without insurance

Driving without insurance does not make you liable in tort to the other driver. You can lose your license and you will have to hire your own lawyer to defend you if the other company sues you. I suggest you see a lawyer because you should know details regarding your rights with respect to your operator's license and because it sounds like the insurance company is engaging in unlawful conduct in telling you a lie to help with its collection.
