Legal Question in Immigration Law in Wisconsin

Illegrant alien

My situation is kind of complicated. I'm from the UK and entered the US in 2004 under the visa waiver program and I overstayed. The reason being my soon-to-be ex husband (a US citizen who lives in the UK) was abusive, the main reason I came to the US in the first place being to get away from him. I am currently living with a US citizen although we're not married (obviously) and we have a new born child. Can I adjust my status so I can remain here legally? If so, how? I know that I can self petition under VAWA, but do I have any other options available to me?

Re: Illegrant alien

If you marry, your new husband can petition for you, and you probably can thereby obtain permanent resident status.

Also note that, until you do become a permanent resident, your departure from the U.S. will trigger an automatic ten-year bar from returning.
