Legal Question in Personal Injury in Wisconsin

False statements made at a funeral

I am 18, my father died in November. At the visitation, someone my father did business with, sat next to his casket and discussed loudly money she felt her company she worked for was owed. This was discussed with my grandfather and everyone in the room could not help hearing. After reaching the point, where I could not take it anymore, I pulled them aside and asked what this was about. The women from the business, said ''do not worry we will figure out tomarrow what his debt is.'' In a later discussion with her employer about what she did, her company backed her up on this behavior, making no apologies other than we are sorry for anyone who has ever hurt you people, and as it turned out, no debt was owed. This still is bothering me after all these months my fathers friends had to hear this about this debt that turned out not to be. Do I have any legal recourse?

Re: False statements made at a funeral

I graduated from law school thirty years ago and have never had an inquiry concerning a case such as yours, so I am unsure as to whether you might be able to pursue a claim. That being said, I do not think that you should pursue this matter. The case, if viable, would take a long time, would have expenses involved, and, in my opinion, would have a very limited potential recovery, if any. The case would probably become a focus of your life and would cause you stress. I do not think, on balance, that it would be a good thing for you to pursue.

This is not something I would get involved in.
