Legal Question in Social Security Law in Wisconsin

My Step Daughter receives social security from deceased father, can we save money for college tuition for the future? Will there be any implications on funds if we do? My wife says you can't save money for something like that. I would like a clarification to prove her wrong. I think we can. Please help!

You can save the money to later spend it for the benefit of the child. It wouldn't be any different than if you paid some household bills with the SS money, then took your money that you saved from spending on household bills and put it in her college fund.

I got SS money for several years after my mom died, and my dad saved it for me for college. It put me through the first two years at junior college. I think that is a very good use of the funds if you don't need to spend it on household bills.
