Legal Question in Personal Injury in Wyoming

Is hiring an attorney cost effective?

I was involved in an automobile accident. I am wondering if hiring an attorney at a 33% rate would likely be cost effective, or if I should try to handle this on my own? I have a neck injury. Thirty three percent sounds like a lot. Is it?

Re: Is hiring an attorney cost effective?

The answer to your question is too complicated to answer in this format. Alot depends on the individual circumstances of your case. Neck injury cases are very complicated by their nature. It has been my experience that insurance companies offer low but quick settlement early on, hoping that you accept the settlement without considering the full consequences of the injury. You can always negotiate a fee with your attorney, which does not always have to be 33%. You can represent yourself, but representation in this area is very complicated. One must consider the nature of the injuries, the longlasting type of the injury, the nature of liability, the specific damages in the specific situation and many other factors too numerous to list here. You certainly can represent yourself, much like you could perform your own appendix removal operation. You may get lucky and do it right. Then, again, you may do it wrong and have to live with the consequences the rest of your life. Despite portrayals elsewhere, attorneys are trained professionals, who have gone to school for a long time to learn how to provide a very complicated and technical service. My best advice to you would be to set up and appointment with an attorney and evaluate your case and see if you need legal representation. Ask the attorney to assess where you are, and whether or not the attorney feels you have anything to gain by pursuing a lawsuit. If the attorney is hesitant to provide you with that advice, find someone else. Shop around until you feel comfortable with your attorney, but be aware there is a statute of limitations on this type of claim. Make a fully informed decision. You can do that by gathering up your information and discussing the matter with competent counsel of your choice.
