Legal Question in Immigration Law in United States

I'm 19 years old and was in a domestic violence relationship (him 21). We aren't married barley have 5 months together and have lived with each other and everything. No kids BTW. The last time my partner hit me I did go to the hospital for trying to suicide days later. At the hospital I was encourage to do a police report and I have the hospital papers that say my suicide attempt and my check on the injuries he did due to the arguments.. I was wondering if I was able to fix my papers? He's a U.S citizen and I'm from Mexico. ThanksIf yes what's the first step?

You may be eligible for VAWA, but I do not recommend you prepare & file the case on your own. I recommend you seek assistance from an experienced immigration attorney who has filed VAWA cases. I would be happy to review your case if you would like to contact my office: [email protected].

Thank you.

If you were never married to him, then you're not eligible for a VAWA battered spouse petition. However, you may be eligible for a U Visa. I strongly suggest you consult with an experienced immigration attorney regarding the requirements and process.

I would strongly advise you speak with a knowledgeable immigration attorney. Additionally, help is also available from the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or 1-800-787-3224 (TDD). You may be eligible for immigration benefits under VAWA or a U visa. Finally, your local Legal Aide (in the phone book), may provide free or substantially discounted legal assistance to include helping you file for immigration benefits.
