civil summons child support

Is it necessary to have an attorney sumitt legal letter to answer a child support summons? can a letter be sumitted or must I appear in court? .He just needs to know how to take care of thiswith out having to go to Alabama.

you need to contact an attorney to see just exactly what the summons requires you to do. It will either require a FORMAL answer to a lawsuit or your appearance. The attorney or agency to contact should be indicated on the summons. This is NOT something to be handled with a phone call or letter. More importantly there is usually a time limitation, the failure of which to satisfy could bring serious consequences such as the inability to raise a defense that you normally would be entitled to.
