can i be sued for the remainder of my car loan after the car is repossesed and sold

Yes. The lender will send you a notice stating what the amount was that the car sold at auction and inform you of the difference and ask for that to be paid within a certain period of time. If it is not, they will seeking legal action after a collection agency attempts to collect the debt.
