Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

Adopted

I was adopted by my stepfather 20 years ago in Alabama, I now live in Kansas. I have a certified copy of my original birth certificate (no father listed) and the affidavit to amend record of birth (father is listed). My whole name was changed during the adoption. Now that I know my real fathers name, I want my birth name back. Not long ago I filed for bankruptcy. Will this look like an attempt to defraud if I apply for a name change?

Re: Adopted

The fact that you filed bankruptcy previously should not be a problem and should not stand in the way of you changing your name. You will be required to notify all your creditors of your intention to change your name. However, you will not have to inform any creditors who had debts discharged in your bankruptcy. It should be a relatively easy process for you. If you have more specific questions, it may be a good idea to seek the advice of an attorney.
