Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

I want a divorce from my husband of 31 yrs. He is not abusive, but I'm tired of waiting for him to acknowledge and do something about his drinking. We have not shared the same bed in over two years, however we do every once in a while ( maybe four times in the last 18 months) have sex. There is no physical reason why we cannot have sex. I think he does that to try to convince me that he's still in this marriage, but there is no intimacy. We live like roommates, sharing the bills. We own our home, and I live in a town where the housing options are almost non-existant. This is his hometown and he has other options that I don't have. I've asked him to leave because I basically have no where to go. I can't afford to live in a motel indefinitely. How can I make him leave, since he has basically physically and emotionally abandoned me? He is perfectly content with this arrangement and I have had enough.

I assume you are both on your house's deed? Is there a considerable income difference between the two of you? Your basic option is to file for divorce and hash out a property settlement in court. Typically the value of the house will be split in half. Its hard sell a house nowadays, and many people have no equity even if they do sell... so those factors will all have to be taken into account. We'd love to help you. We have a track record of helping people arrive at amicable solutions, and could work with you on a fee arrangement.
