If a divorce is in the works, but not filed yet, is it considered desertion if one party moves out of the residence, taking all of their personal possessions? If it is, how would that impact the proceedings?

Abandonment requires that the person leave with the intention of not returning, provides no support and remains gone for 6 months. It usually does not make a big difference.
