Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

Hi, i live in mobile, alabama and am wondering at what age is a child allowed to choose with whom they live with. my nephew lives with his mother and is very unhappy with the current living arrangments, including her new boyfriend and new found pregnancy. he is 14 years old, is he legally, allowed to make the choice to come live with me and my husband?

The law permits a 14 year old to be able to voice his opinion in a court about his living situation, however, that is typically when the choice is between parents. I don't know of any law that would permit him to choose another relative unless she is found to be unfit. If his mother is very busy with her new pregnancy and boyfriend, she might welcome a change of household, so perhaps everyone can sit down and talk about a new living situation to suit the family. Short of her agreement, however, your nephew's unhappiness will not carry the day.
