Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Alabama

guy says call my lawyer, but gives no number

someone said they are going to sue me for taking back a gift that i gave them and when i tried to talk to them they say contact my lawyer, but they dont give me the lawyers phone number or anything, and they keep phoning me leaving messages, and then when i call back they say contact lawyer, over and over agian. What should i do?

I would do nothing. Your were not right in taking back a gift. For a gift to be complete, that is to vest titile to the property in your donor, you must have the intent to make a gift, and actually deliver the gift. That having been accomplished, your donor is the rightful owner of the property. You had no right to "take it back." Hope that the donor does not get an attorney, especially if the gift is one of substantial value.

You might want to check the court where you and the other guy live to see if you have been named as a defendant in a lawsuit. If not, I would write a letter to the guy to document your position (short and sweet). Send the letter certified and keep a copy. Other than that, you might want to wait to hear from his lawyer.
