Legal Question in Employment Law in Arizona

If a prospective employer contacts a prior employer for a job reference, what legally can and can't the prior employer tell the prospective employer about the applicant ?

It's my understanding that a prior employer can not report any negative information about the applicant that would hender their ability to obtain employment ?

If this is the fact where can I get a copy of the law and regulation ?

Thank you

Dennis

Thank you for the question. Unfortunately, a former employer is free to communicate to prospective employers any information the former employer reasonably believes to be true. As such, there is no prohibition on providing negative information.
