Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Arizona

My father recently passed away in the state of AZ. There was no will that I'm aware of, he did have a safe deposit box but I was not able to get into it becasue I'm not power of attorney. Can I fill out a collection of personal property affidavit to obtain this? I live in the state of washington, and the only adult child living.

You can access the self service center of the Superior Court on the internet, go to www.maricopa.gov, click on self service center, click on download forms and then find the forms and instructions that apply to Affidavit re Small Estates. Do you know if your father had any other property in addition to the contents of the safe deposit box? It would be important to know that to determine if the small estate exemption applies and that no probate is required. Note, a power of attorney ceases to be of any effect the moment the principal dies.
