Legal Question in Family Law in Arkansas

paternity

my son is possibly the fater of a baby born last month in arkansas. the mother does not want him to be apart of the childs life and is not at this time asking him for anything. He also at this time has chosen not to be apart of the baby's life. What is your advise to him legally? He really thinks he is the father, should he still get a paternity test? Can she come back on him later for child support? Do they need to have something drawn up now stating that she does not want anything or she does not want him to be apart of the baby's life? Thanks

Re: paternity

Your son is "legally" the father of the child. "something drawn up" is not going to absolve him of his legal responsibilities. She can come back on him at any time subject to whatever the statute of limitations might be (10 years in TX) for child support & he will *have* to pay it. Might be better to start making monthly payments now. He better get his legal responsibilities determined by the judge or he is on her string till the child turns 18. Good Luck.
