Bankruptcy and Reposession

I am a permanent resident since 2001, can my status be affected if my husband(US citizen) and me file for bankruptcy? Our unpaid debt incurred about 4 years ago. We tried paying some but are unsuccessful. My husband was medically discharged from the Navy and we are now just earning minimum wage. Please help us. Thank you.

Probably not, unless you have tax debts and the like owed to governmental entities. Otherwise you should both be able to get a fresh start.
