Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California

Discharge Letter

I was recently filling out some papers, and one of the questions said if you receently filed Chapt 7 give a copy of Discharge papers.

I confused. I jusr filed BK 2 months ago and a BK is not discharged for 10 years. Or are they talking about something else altogether?

I assume they are talking about your Notice of Discharge. The discharge is the benefit you get, and purpose for, filing bankruptcy

A Chapter 7 bankruptcy in Los Angeles County is usually discharged within 3.5 to 4 months. It stays on a credit report for 10 years, and you cannot file another Chapter 7 bankruptcy for 6 years after the discharge. I hope this helps. -Robert F. Cohen, Esq.
