what if a friend give's you a gift over the years, and now wants the money back.
what are my options.

You can simply point out it was a gift and have no obligation to return it. You can work out a deal with your friend. You can defend the case if your friend decides to take you to court. If the gift is less than $10,000, it will be small claims court.
