Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

inappropriate pay scale distribution at los angeles county employee

I work for la county, recently , in our dept. We had pay increases. This included a two part analysis.

The first, was called ''scales'' and is related to number of years , so if you worked 10 years you got payed more then someone who has only worked 5 years.

The second, called ''grades'', is related to the type of work assignment you aquire. For example a person in a supervising position would get a higher grade then a person in a regular work positon.

The problem is, in my dept. Where we have 10 people, 7 recieved a grade 3, 1 recieved a grade 2m and two people recieved a grade 1.

This is a problem because of two reasons. The first, we all do the same job. The second, the county alottment for our dept. Was 1 person with a grade 3, and 1 person with a grade 2, the rest are suppose to be on a grade 1.

In effect , we have about 8 people working out of class. At other county facilities, those people were given the altimatum to either get a demotion or go to another area where that can work within there true class framework.

Not here, in effect there is about a 420.00 / mo difference between a 3 and a 1, i am working with people who are doing the same job i am and they are making about 5k more a year then i am...
