Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

class action suits

How does a person who starts a national class action suit be compensated at a higher rate then all that join in on the litigation. I was led to believe that there is a term used for the one respponsible for starting the proceedings,I have anmational suit affecting over 6 national consumer chains. Thank you--

Step 1: find an attorney who is willing to take you on as a representative of the class. Step 2: tell me how you found him because I don't know how this is possible.
