Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
I recently vacated my old apartment at the owners request. Actually, they threatened to evict if I didn't leave. I paid the last months rent for May on the 1st, at 1400.00 and was out May 15. The manager and I did a walk through inspection and she advised me that I would get most of my deposit back which was 1425.00 minus a charge for cleaning and painting. I had asked her beforehand if I should have the carpet cleaned and paint the place myself and she replied NO. The carpet, she said, would be replaced. 30 days later i haven't received any money. I called the manager and she says the owner said they had sent me a bill for damages?? Apparently the appliances, stove and refrigerator were infested with roaches?? To my knowledge both were in perfect working order when I left and were not infested with roaches as they claimed. To this date, I haven't received any BILL. I have asked for the owners number from the manager and she won't give it to me. What do I do now??
