Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

My wife wants to get a Sears credit card under her name. The offer she received says she will get a $4K credit line.

If my wife gets the card under her name only and is unable to pay the bill, can Sears come after me since we're married?

Yup. All debt acquired during the marriage is community debt.
