Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

How do I get my car title?

My car loan was turned over to a collection agency because I was behind in my payments. I made the necessary payment to the collection agency and my balance is now $0. When I called the to find out why I haven't received my title I was told by the original loan company, which is located in California, that my loan was bought out by the collection agency and that the collection agency would have the title. I in turn called the collection agency that ''bought'' my loan was given the complete opposite story. They told me that they collected the money but the original finance company still had the loan and I would have to go through them to get my title. So far I been getting the run around from both the finance company and the collection agency with noone admitting that they have my title. Also, I live in Illionis and the collection agency is located in Texas. What are my options?

Re: How do I get my car title?

It could be that the title has been lost. If that is the case then I would contact the Secretary of States office which originally issued the title and see what they can do for you.
