Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Case Management Conference

Being sued by collection agency. Already answered summons/complaint. Today I checked the court website and I see that a case conference management has been set in a week. What is this? Is there anything I should do or ask for at this conference?

If the atty for collection company doesnt show up can i ask for the case to be dismiss at the conference?

I do realize that I should get an atty but don't know if I can get one on such short notice.

Thank you.

Re: Case Management Conference

Complete a case management statement, found on the Judicial Council website, have a friend sign the proof of service, and mail a copy to the plaintiff, and file the original with proof of service with the court.

The court will want to know how discovery is going -- i.e. interrogatories, document demands, and depositions. It might set a trial date several months out. It also might suggest or order that the case go to mediation.
