Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I had a old CC that I stopped paying on in 2003, a couple collection agencies got ahold of it and now an attorney. First question is the agencies and attorney are showing various years when they had actually opened the account, is this legal to show as new (since it's old debt) and does that mean if I don't pay it still stays on another 7 yrs. from the date they acquired the account?

Second question is if I decide to pay this debt can I then request not only the attorney account to show paid but also the separate collection accounts as well since they are all affiliated with the same debt?

The statute of limitations may have run on the debt. I will have to review the letters and other communications as there may also be a violation of the Federal and State Fair Debt Collection Debt.
