Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Disputing debt with a collection agency

I joined a dating service in CA and cancelled my membership after fifteen days. The dating service assigned the alleged debt to a collection agency 3 months after I sent my letter of cancellation to them. When I received the collection agencies letter; I sent a letter a week later to the collection agency informing them that the debt was in dispute and asking for all the material required under the FDCPA. The collection agency has been trying to collect from me for a full year of membership. The debt is six years old. What should I do?

This is not an issue of whether or not you owe the debt. Is not an issue of whether or not you entered into a contract. Issue here is whether or not they are violating the law while attempting to collect the debt. Please give our office a call next week and will be glad to discuss this with you.

If you have not made or promised to make a payment in the last 4 years, then the statute of limitations has expired and you owe nothing. You should check your credit report to make sure this debt is not being reported and if it is, you need to have the credit bureaus remove it.
