Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Do I still owe money?

A (two party)judgement was entered against me, personally, for a business transaction, in 1984. I settled with one of the parties (who is an attorney), in 1994. The attorney never signed the paperwork for release of judgement. The attorney is now trying to extend the original debt (which has grown five-fold) for another 10 years. What should I do?

Re: Do I still owe money?

You should immediately take all of the documents you have relating to the judgment, including any documents relating to your "settlement" with the attorney plaintiff to an attorney and discuss this situation with him/her. If you truly "settled" this matter, and the plaintiff refuses to file an acknowledgement of satisfaction of judgment, you may have a right to pursue the plaintiffs.
