In the future, don't plead guilty to something that you didn't do. If the crime was a misdemeanor, and you successfully completed your probation (which could include county jail time), you can have it expunged under Penal Code Section 1203.4 by filing a form with the court clerk and paying a fee of $60 or so. If it was a felony, and you did state prison time, you should retain a lawyer to apply for a "certificate of pardon and rehabilitation." If you did not do state prison time, hire a lawyer to file a motion with the court to have the case reduced to a misdemeanor and then expunged under Section 1203.4. If it was a misdemeanor, and you violated probation at some point, see a lawyer to discuss your options. Expunging your criminal record won't count as far as applying for a position in law enforcement, and for some other government-related purposes.
