Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Bail was excepted after release.

My boyfriend was arrested in Laughlin, Nevada. A bond co. was having trouble getting the bail accepted from CA. My boyfriend was relesed 42 hours later and eventually recieved a letter from the D.A. that no charges were filed. The bond was excepted after my boyfriend was back home. Now the bond company is harrassing us to pay the remaining amount, my boyfriend had to agree upon, for the family ''bondsman'' friend. The D.A.s letter stated any bail would be returned to the one who payed. The bond co. will not even talk to us about this, stating he was bailed out. What can we do to stop the costly events ahead? He has nothing outstanding.

Re: Bail was excepted after release.

The payment to the bonding company is akin to the payment of the premium for insurance. When the bond agreement was signed the obligation to pay the bail bond was final. You should go to the jail in Laughlin and get a statement regarding why he was released. If the bond was posted you are on the hook for the premium on the bond.
