Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

I was charged with an embezzlement of $4200. I was bailed out of jail and need to know if I will need a lawyer present the day of court. Does this type of act normally result in jail time or a fee fine??

You need to consult with an attorney as soon as possible. If you cannot afford an attorney, you should ask the court to appoint you a public defender. The last embezzlement case that I saw, which was not my case, but the case called before mine, resulted in the defendant serving time.

If this is charged as a felony, you face potential prison time. As a misdemeanor, then up to a year in jail. Effective plea bargaining, using whatever defenses and sympathies you may have, could possibly keep you out of jail.prison, depending upon all the facts and evidence. Not exactly a do it yourself project in court for someone who does not know how to effectively represent himself. After the fact, you could have saved your money spent on bail, to hire an attorney who may likely have been able to get you out on your Own Recognizance, or on reduced bail you could have posted in cash instead of paying the bondsman premium. That is a lesson always learned too late. If now serious about hiring counsel, feel free to contact me.
