Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Contact with minor on Internet

I became friends over the Internet with a minor girl who fell in love with me. We corresponded extensively for three months, though never planned a meeting or even of having a relationship. Her mother found out and has not only asked me not to contact her daughter, but has threatened to contact my wife and authorities if I contact her. Now, I don't plan to contact her and hope she will leave it at that.

What we did doesn't appear to be illegal, because it's not one of those cases of a kid running away with an adult - far from it. Still, I'd like to know what the legal ramificatons are, if any. The girl lives in another state.

Thanks for your help.
