Pro bono criminal defense is what the 'Public Defender' is paid to do by our tax dollars; apply for one at court. Private criminal defense attorneys make their living by charging clients for their services. Your criminal defense attorney will make any appropriate motions to try to prove any 'illegal' actions of the police. If he succeeds, you then MAY have grounds for a 1983 claim / 'false arrest'. You should seek the opinion of your defense counsel at the end of the criminal case.

A provable 1983 claim is sometimes handled on contingency or partial contingency. The credible evidence you have will determine the willingness of any counsel to take the case. If you believe you have such proof/evidence, then you should contact local to you counsel for a consultation. You could contact the local Lawyer Referral Service, or one of the online referral services [this is not such a service] for a list of attorneys that does such cases.
