Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

My HOA says I am responsible for a worker I had in my home who stoled HOA property. I have to repay 1,500 for the property that was vandalized. Is this legal?

Stolen and vandalized both represent crimes. Generally, we are not responsible for the crimes others commit unless we are part of a conspiracy or participant in the crime.

You can understand the logic of the HOA demand: your employee, your fault. But, that applies generally only to negligence and accidents, not crimes done without your knowledge and consent.

You should consult with a local attorney to get a real 'legal opinion', which this is not, once he knows all the facts.
