Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Informal probation
My friend is on informal probation for an 11550. He missed a court date on 1-16-09 & there was a bench warrant issued. The cops showed up a few days ago at his house and he showed them his papers stating he went to the clerks office on 1/17/09 and was put back on calender for 2-19-08 and they left, but they said they weren't going to give him a PTA becuase that would just give him a later court date. Today the cops came back today 2-12-09 while he was getting in his car and arrested him on the bench warrant & asked to search his house & he said no & was put in the back of the cop car. They then kicked in the front door to the house and completly trashed it only finding a little bit of weed. He was in the back of the cop car whole time during the search and told the cops the he did not give them concent to search the house. They also left medication and chocolate on the floor of the house and put his dog back inside. Not caring if the dog ate it or not. Is this legal?
