Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

First Offense.. What Am i looking at?

Hello everyone. First of all i thought I should say that This is the first site that actually has people who know what theyre talking about on it! Hopefully someone can help me out :)

So, on February 17th, I was arrested on 3 charges.

1. Grand Theft ($1,150.00) Felony

2. Identity Theft (Credit Card) Felony

3. Elderly Abuse (misuse of elderly persons credit card)

I basically am charged with using credit cards unlawfully to make purchases online. The total amount is $1,150.00.

I have no priors, not even as a juvenile. This was my first arrest ever.

I was released on my own Recog. After spending 4 nights in county jail.

I was wondering in California, on a first offense, what is likely to happen to me? Upon my release the condidtions were to get a job, which i have done. I am wondering if i will get madatory jail time/prison time?

I have a public defender, but only have spoken to him during the first court appearance. HE told me the DA wanted to give me Probation, full resituion and jail time (not specifiying length) if i plead guilty.

So he told me next month when i come back to bring $350 in restition, and he'll try to get me a deal.. Someone help?? :(

What do you think is the likely scenario?? Anyone??

Unless you have sufficient funds to hire a private attorney to take this matter to trial, the disposition seems just given the severity of the charges. I would however need to know what you are expected to plea to.

Probation with some jail time indeed sounds like a likely result. "Restitution" tends to be the magic word in these kind of cases. The more you have to put on the table for the victim, the more likely a favorable result is.
